Calling all Authors of WPO
April 3, 2024 6:20 PM
Hi!
There are likely so many authors within WPO, it would be great for you to introduce yourself and tell us a bit about your book.
Looking forward to getting to know you.
Cheering you on,
Lisa
I'm Lisa Bragg, author of Bragging Rights How to Talk about Your Work Using Purposeful Self-Promotion (May 2023).
Here's the back blurb:
We’ve long been told, “Put your head down, do good work, and eventually someone will notice you.” But that limiting and diminishing advice doesn’t hold up in the noise and pace of these transformative times. The reality is, no one cares about your future the way you do. If you want to achieve remarkable results, it’s up to you to talk about your successes and accomplishments.
In Bragging Rights, acclaimed speaker and advisor Lisa Bragg shows you how to get comfortable with sharing your strengths. Drawing on proprietary research, consultations with high-performing leaders, and her own rich experiences as a journalist and entrepreneur, Bragg examines why so many people are afraid to speak up about their work, illuminates why bragging is a catalyst of positive change, and offers practical advice on embracing and applying the art of authentic self-promotion.
With proven tools, techniques, and insights, Bragging Rights will help you understand and tell the world about your true superpowers, so you can access new opportunities and, along the way, elevate others.

Lisa, your book sounds wonderful! So helpful to have a roadmap for "purposeful self-promotion" in a world of loud, self-indulgent messaging. Thank you! And, really, your last name is Bragg? You were born for this work!
Thanks Megan,
Appreciate your kind words. Looking back, it was my path all along but just didn't see it. I love what I do. For awhile, I thought my last name was a burden but it was just giving me stories to be able to help so many other people.
Cheering you on!

Congratulations, Lisa. Years ago, I took a Mama Gena course and she taught about the power of bragging and I've been doing it with my friends and work group since then. I will definitely check out your book. I would love to have you speak to my 2 groups about the power of bragging as they still have trouble speaking about themselves. You can reach me at sandi@sandiwebster.com.
Hi Sandi,
I had to look up Mama Gena too. Wow. She's got power. Thanks for telling me about her.
I'll follow up with you.
Thank you.
Lisa
My book, Black and White Strike Gold, was published in 2009, but still stands up today. We consider it the essential manual for creating and running a successful business.
When Sandi Webster and Peggy McHale, racially-mixed business partners, set out to launch their own consulting company in 2002, they had years of corporate experience and plenty of research to guide their way. But none of it prepared them for the difficulties of landing their first paying client, hiring the right staffers, or the downside—yes downside—of their company hitting the million-dollar level. Through lots of trial-and error, they persevered and took notes!
Sandi and Peggy gathered 52 of their most valuable nuggets in this book designed to answer all of the questions you always wanted to ask about business but were afraid to ask, such as:
• Should you share every detail about the company finances with your team?
• How do you recognize a partnership that’s gone bad—and get out of it?
• How do you keep a business going in a failing economy?
• Can you really have a multi-million dollar business and work from home?
In this brutally honest look at the daily trials and tribulations of being a small business owner, Sandi and Peggy tackle motivational, financial and social topics with their own personal spin on how all three impacted their consulting business. Their story of how they made the shift from the corporate world to entrepreneurial success will make you laugh at some situations and nod your head in acknowledgment at others. You’ll leave knowing that you are not alone and maybe you too will find some gold at the end of the road.

Hi Sandi! Sounds like a great book with the real-life lessons you two have gained! I must admit, I have never heard of Mama Gena, and had to look her up. Wow, she has really tapped into the feminine:-)
We need more of those brutally honest conversations in this "just become an entrepreneur" era we're in. It's a rollercoaster and people need to know it.
Thanks for sharing.
Lisa
Thanks for creating this group. I wrote Crazy, as Usual last year to elevate the conversation about mental health in the workplace. I've developed a community forum on the subject and a podcast. More at www.crazyasusual.com.;
Donna, you have hit upon such a critical need right now (and always, for that matter). We've spoken about your work, and know that it is a key component for organizational performance.
Hi Donna,
Such an important topic.
I'm going to find you on social channels now.
Cheering you on!
